Regi and Jodi Corbin, along with their three daughters – London (13), Skylar (11), and Peyton (10) – faithfully serve together in Watermark Preschool as an outpouring of God’s work in their lives. Their story is an example of how serving can impact not only those around you but also your own family. As you read about their experience, consider how you might serve alongside your family, siblings, or community group to invest in the next generation.
Tell us a little about your upbringing, your relationship with Christ, and how God brought you to Watermark.
Regi: “My parents were Christians, and I saw servant leadership from my father at a very young age. When I was six, I prayed with the Sunday school teacher and trusted in Christ. It is fun seeing the kids we serve on Sundays around the same age I was! I wasn’t always closely following the Lord, but I got involved with a student ministry in college and had great Christian friends around me. My walk with the Lord grew a lot through this.”
Jodi: “I also grew up in a Christian home and saw my parents model faith really well. From a young age, I led with my parents in a church classroom with little kids, and I have strong memories of that. I had ups and downs in my faith throughout school, but eventually ended up in Dallas to get a counseling degree at Dallas Theological Seminary. Regi and I met as young adults at The Porch here at Watermark and have been members for about 15 years!”
Why do serve as a family?
Regi: “We serve in Foundation Groups because they had such a big impact on our own marriage, and now we want to give that same support to other couples. We’ve also seen how people have poured into our kids through Watermark Preschool and Kids, and we want to do the same for other children. It may be easy to sit back and consume at a church this big, but serving is also a way to feel more connected in this local church.
Jodi: “As parents, it’s important to us to instill a life of discipleship in our kids. We want to train them now to understand who Christ is from an early age and to know there are opportunities to serve and love others. I believe serving transforms our lives, the lives of our own children, and the children we serve in our classroom. We can love and serve these kids while their parents are growing in their faith. Hopefully, we’re also giving the children little nuggets of truth that will blossom as they grow up.
“Now, we’re watching our daughters lead in a Watermark Preschool classroom with us, and it’s really sweet. We can step back and oversee while they are leading the class and reading the stories. They’re young, but they’re doing so much for the Kingdom!”
Tell us about serving and growing up in Watermark Kids.
London: “I’ve learned a lot from my leaders. They help me learn more about the Bible, encourage me to go to church, and help me in my relationship with God.”
“My favorite part about serving is just hanging out with the kids. We’re in the same classroom each time we serve, so it is fun to see the kids as they grow up.”
Skylar: “I love that we get to play with the kids, do activities, and teach them the Bible. We talk with them and just ask them about their life! Peyton and I usually do the Bible stories together.”
Peyton: “I like the songs in my class because I like to dance and sing about Jesus. I like serving because I like hanging out and talking with the kids. I also like to teach the kids about Jesus by reading the Bible and doing the memory verse.”
