I was born in South Dallas, TX, and I was raised in Corsicana, TX. I met my amazing husband, Burlon Leffall, Jr. on a blind date in Garland, TX. From our union, we have two wonderful adult sons (Burlon III and Terrence) and a lovely daughter-in-love (Chasity). I’m also the proud Mimi of two sweet granddaughters, Kennedy and Kylie. I call them my butterflies. My family means everything to me, and I love spending quality time with them. Some of my other favorite activities include reading, crocheting, shooting basketball, and enjoying a delicious meal (Mexican and BBQ).
Not only do I love my family, but I have a heart for people. That shows in my life’s pursuits. I earned my BA in Political Science at The University of Texas - Arlington, where I also minored in Communications (with a focus in radio, TV, and drama). I also earned my Master’s in Human Services Counseling (with a focus in marriage and family therapy). My career background includes serving the community as a lay counselor, TV host, teacher, author, women’s advocate and trainer at a shelter, and so many other hats.
It’s God’s love for me that fuels my love for people. I take Colossians 3:23-24 to heart: “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord and not for people, knowing that it is from the Lord that you will receive the reward of the inheritance.”
My path to Christ wasn’t ordinary. I wasn’t raised in a strong Christian household, where we were expected to go to church. However, my grandfather was a devout believer. He was blind. As a result, I would read the Bible to him, and go to church and Sunday school on his behalf when he became ill. I’d come back to him and tell him what I learned or I read the lesson to him. This marked the beginning of my relationship with Christ, and I accepted Him as my personal Savior at age 14. My grandfather’s blindness helped me see the truth. I also had a best friend who consistently shared the gospel with me. I really began to hear God’s voice at age 36. For decades, I’ve served as an intercessor and counselor in various realms of ministry. I also wrote a published Bible study, The Spirit of Truth and Love: A Bible Study of First, Second, and Third John.
God has given me the Spiritual gifts of Administration and Counseling. Having a strong ear for His voice, He instructed me to accept this role at Watermark. He then showed me that He was going to make use of my various gifts here to serve His people. I listened and obeyed. And I’m blessed to be on this journey.
